The Art of Wrapping a Newborn Safely
One of the most beautiful elements of newborn photography is the delicate art of wrapping. A well-done wrap not only creates timeless and cozy images, but it also provides a sense of security and comfort for baby—mimicking the feeling of being snuggled in the womb.
But wrapping a newborn is so much more than just aesthetics. It’s an essential skill rooted in safety, experience, and gentle care. Here’s a closer look at why wrapping is so important in newborn photography—and how I ensure every baby is safe, snug, and happy during their session.

Why Wrap?
Newborns naturally love being swaddled. Wrapping helps them feel safe and calm, which often leads to longer stretches of peaceful sleep—perfect for capturing those dreamy, curled-up poses.
Wrapping can also help with:
• Soothing fussy babies
• Preventing startling reflexes
• Highlighting tiny features like fingers, toes, and sweet little profiles
• Creating clean, timeless images without distractions

Safety Comes First
In my studio, baby’s comfort and safety are the #1 priority. Every wrap I use is made of soft, breathable fabrics designed specifically for newborns. I never wrap too tightly or restrict natural movement—especially around the hips and airways.
Here’s how I ensure your baby is always safe:
• Gentle technique: I follow baby-led cues and adjust wraps based on their comfort.
• Monitoring constantly: I watch their breathing, color, and body temperature at all times.
• No pressure posing: If baby isn’t loving a certain pose or wrap, we switch it up—no stress, no rush.
• Layered safety: I often start with a base wrap to support baby, then add decorative layers for style.

Styles of Wrapping
Every baby is different, and so is every wrap. I love playing with textures and colors, but always with baby’s safety and comfort in mind. From full swaddles to more relaxed, open wraps that show off little hands and feet, we create a look that feels classic and unique to your session.
Whether it’s a snug cocoon or a soft drape over a tiny body, wraps help focus the image on baby—keeping the look simple, serene, and sweet.
Wrapping is both an art and a responsibility. It takes practice, patience, and deep respect for the tiny human in front of the camera. When done safely and thoughtfully, it creates some of the most cherished images from a newborn session.
If you’re expecting and considering newborn photos, I’d love to walk you through the process and answer any questions about what to expect. My studio is a calm, warm, and welcoming space where every detail is baby-focused—from the wraps to the lighting to the pace of the session.
